“My practice is built on exploration. The unknown is where all the good stuff is.”
— Michael Parker
An Early Calling
Growing up in a house filled with his mother’s botanical paintings, Michael was captivated from a young age by the magic of watching a canvas come to life. That early exposure planted a lifelong fascination with colour, emotion and the transformative power of creativity.
Behind the Work
Michael’s process is as layered as the artworks themselves. While guided by instinct, he is endlessly experimental with materials, pouring resin, working with encaustic wax, acrylics, graphite, and charcoal, or reaching for spray paint, coloured pencils, and oils. Each piece becomes a field for exploration, where textures collide and unexpected marks emerge.
Part of what makes his work so distinctive is his use of found objects. Michael scours antique markets, op shops, and travels abroad to gather fabrics, stamps, postcards, and papers that once had another life. Japanese papers, Balinese fabrics, and fragments of letters or collaged textures are woven into the surface, carrying their own histories while becoming part of something new.
This openness to both material and memory gives his practice a raw authenticity. Every layer has its own story, and together they create artworks that feel alive, contemporary, and deeply human.
Building Creative Spaces
Michael is also the founder of two beloved galleries in Daylesford, Victoria: Michael Parker Gallery, located in the heart of town, and Stony Creek Gallery, tucked away just beyond the main street. Each gallery reflects his commitment not just to art-making, but to cultivating spaces where others can connect, reflect, and feel something.

Art for Real Life
Michael creates with the hope that his work brings warmth, joy, and inspiration to the homes it lives in. Whether you're drawn to the texture of a figure’s expression or the quiet rhythm of layered materials, there's something in his work that invites a deeper look.
